Acupressure was traditionally a folk healing practice in Asia, it is the finger pressure techniques by which acupuncture evolved. In Chinese Medicine it is believed the individual can restore their own health with help from the universal qi, this encourages personal awareness and introspection to help the body to heal. Acupressure helps us uncover and understand the underlying patterns that are causing illness, so it promotes long lasting change. This style of acupressure has a focus on the "strange flows" or the Eight Extraordinary Vessels of Chinese Meridian Theory. The Chinese believe that these channels are reservoirs for the body and its meridians, balancing energy through each system.

Thai massage is a branch of traditional Thai medicine, treating individuals by addressing the physical and energetic body. It has resemblances to deep tissue massage and assisted yoga stretching. The massage has a full body sequence of slow, rhythmic compressions, therapeutic pressure points and gentle stretches. The intent of the massage is to free blockages and stagnation in the energy lines (Sen Sib) affecting the underlying life force (Prana) in the body. The receiver will be lying fully clothed on a futon mat on the floor and the giver will apply controlled pressure compressions in a rhythmic manner. Traditional Thai Massage is provided by a Registered Massage Therapist, who is a health care professional.

Sydney was born and raised on the lands of Treaty 7 territory, also known as Southern Alberta. She is a Registered Massage Therapist, Traditional Thai Massage Practitioner and a long term student of Yoga. She graduated from the West Coast College of Massage Therapy’s 2200H program in 2017. Earlier in 2015, she finished her professional 150hour certificate at the Thai Massage School of Thailand.

Sydney incorporates Thai compressions/stretching, acupressure, postural assessment, myofascial release, trigger point therapy, joint mobilizations, visceral manipulation and more in her treatment. Sydney strives to combine Eastern and Western knowledge to massage when treating patients from an individual-based approach. She has an interest in using massage as an embodiment practice to treat emotional and mental health challenges, high levels of stress, chronic pain and digestive disorders. Sydney is also passionate about educating patients in corrective compensation-pattern exercises, self-abdomen massage, postural awareness, breathing (pranayama) and yoga postures. As a practitioner, Sydney’s intention is to provide a supportive environment in which clients have permission to slow down, feel what arises in the moment and as a result cultivate a feeling of safety and relaxation in the body with time. She has an interest in learning trauma informed care to obtain a deeper understanding of how to support those influenced by this type of oppression. Please view Sydney’s website for her continuing education history.
